Parade Route

I’ve posted a new recording of “Parade Route” – a collaboration between writer/actor David Wayne Reed and me. David wrote a moving coming-of-age chronicle touching on Kansas mythologies, the divide between nature and nurture, the journey to gay pride and the influences of Superman, Reba McEntire and Fred Phelps, all through the lens of a particular friendship. I did my best to amplify his words, capturing a sense of rural Americana mixed with electric teenage nervousness. The music is improvised on dulcimer with live, interactive electronics. Premiered in Kansas City for KcEMA’s Time & Memory Series in 2014.
